What is u3a?

The u3a is a self-help organisation offering older people the opportunity of lifelong learning within a friendly and sociable framework. Each u3a acts independently but is affiliated to The Third Age Trust that is the UK wide representative body providing a wide range of services to the u3as.

Please scroll down the page to find links to u3as near you.

What do u3as do?
At the heart of each u3a are Interest Groups which organise activities, meetings and outings for their group members, who share the same passion for a particular subject area or activity. Each u3a will have a wide range of Interest Groups such as art, music, languages, science, walking, wine tasting, supper club and pickleball. These groups are operated by the members for the members. These activities take place in an informal, supportive and social atmosphere where learning is undertaken for its own sake without constraints of syllabus and examination.

A list of u3a Nottinghamshire Network members is below. Each has a link to a local u3a website which will open in a new tab in your browser. You can then check out all the extra information. Hopefully, you may even consider joining one of these u3as! All the information will be on the website that you visit.

Interest Groups

The Oversights website provides an overview of the activities offered by u3as across the UK, using information taken from their own websites. It includes details of interest groups and forthcoming events published on u3a SiteWorks websites.

To see interest groups within the Nottinghamshire Network, use the link to the Find a u3a Group page on the Oversights website. This will open in a new browser tab. Enter the name of an interest group, for example Canasta, in the search box. Then select East Midlands and scroll down the results to Nottinghamshire. Any Nottinghamshire u3as offering that group will be shown. Please note that only u3as using SiteWorks for their websites are included. These are highlighted in blue above.

To explore groups in non-SiteWorks websites, follow the links above or use the Find a u3a page on the Oversights website.

How to join a u3a

Each u3a operates independently, allowing you to choose and join one or more from the list above. Simply follow the links to learn more about your selected u3a and explore the diverse groups and activities they offer. You can become a member by attending a monthly meeting or by reaching out to the membership secretary—contact details can be found on their website.
