Nottinghamshire Network of u3as

Workshop June 1st 2026: Interest Groups Matter 2

MESSAGE FROM JOHN BUTLER, CHAIR OF THE NOTTS NETWORK

Hi everyone,

It was great to host and be involved in the Interest Groups Matter 2 Workshop at the Newstead Community Centre on Monday 1st of June, and see how much those who came valued the experience.

After the initial session for the 50+ attendees on “Keeping Interest Groups Vibrant – Looking to the Future”, the participants broke out into a number of different specialist groups to discuss common ideas and issues:

  • Trips and visits
  • Interest Group Co-ordinators
  • Web Managers
  • and a General Group

Since being elected as one of your u3a Council Representatives, alongside Rosie Allen, it has become obvious to me that the best way that individual u3a committees, and their members, can be supported in delivering value to their individual u3a members is through a thriving and active local network.

I have come to recognise that the Nottinghamshire Network is, without doubt, the strongest in the East Midlands Region. Its well-established Peer Support Groups, covering most committee roles within local u3as, together with four themed meetings each year and an annual workshop such as the one held at Newstead, provide an exceptional level of support.
